What can you do with a private pilot certificate?
You can fly an airplane as pilot in command, carry passengers, fly day or night, and travel cross-country, all for personal or recreational purposes. You cannot be paid to fly or fly for hire.
A private pilot can carry friends and family, share flight expenses with passengers on a pro-rata basis, fly for personal business travel, and fly almost anywhere in the country.
The main limitation is compensation: you can’t accept payment for flying or act as a commercial pilot. For that, you’d need a commercial certificate.
