If this will be a hobby it's important to know what you're getting yourself into.  Flying can be an expensive hobby. Most small 4 seater airplanes rent at $150+ per hour. But it can also bring a great deal of joy.

As a career, being a pilot, especially an airline pilot, can be extremely rewarding. You'll get to do something you love and be paid well.

Do you enjoy learning new things?

Being a pilot requires you to learn constantly. You'll learn physics,  math skills, reading the weather, and as a CFI you'll learn how to teach and train people.

Do you meet the minimum requirements?

The FAA requires a pilot to pass a medical exam, be at least 16 years old, and read, speak, and understand english.

Do you want to see the world?

As an airline pilot you'll have the opportunity to fly across the country and around the world. Few jobs give you the access to global travel like working as an airline pilot.

Do you want a career with a high earning potential?

As a brand new regional first officer you'll likely earn around $50,000 excluding any signing bonuses they're currently offering. Then as a captain you'll be earning around $75,000+.

As a first officer at a major airline you'll likely earn around $90,000 excluding any signing bonuses they're currently offering. Then as a captain you'll be earning around $200,000.

All of these number are estimates but it's important to note that many pilots earn even more by picking up additional routes. This also doesn't account for other benefits offered by the airlines.
